Laugher In The Bronx

September 23rd, 2011

The Tampa Bay Rays dominated the Yankees Thursday night 15-8 and if you look at that score, it wasn’t nearly that close.

Matt Moore got his first big league start for the Rays and pitched a phenomenal game. He struck out 11 over 5 innings and gave up just 4 hits.

Bartolo Colon started for the Yankees and the Rays jumped all over him, leading 13-0 in the 5th inning.

Toronto also beat the LA Angels to help move the Rays a game a head of them for the Wildcard spot.

Boston and the Rays each have 6 games remaining, with Boston having a 2 game lead right now.

Rays Lose to Yankees 4-2 (Twice)

September 22nd, 2011

Wednesday was the doubleheader between the Yankees and the Rays and both ended the same way, 4-2 losses for the Rays.

In the first game James Shields pitched against what seemed like every pitcher the Yankees had as they used 8 pitchers on the day.

Shields was up to 120 pitches in the 8th when he gave up the tying home run in the 8th to Eduardo Nunez. JP Howell then gave up a double that scored two runs (charged to Shields.)

With the win the Yankees clinched the division.

In the 2nd game Jeremy Hellickson faced off with CC Sabathia. This was another tough game for the Rays as they had tied it late at 2-2 off  Kelly Shoppach and Sean Rodriguez solo homers.

The 8th inning doomed the Rays again as they loaded the bases and Jorge Posada hit a 2 run single to put the Yankees up 4-2 for good. Rafael Soriano closed out the game for the Yankees.

Rays Lose to Yankees 5-0

September 21st, 2011

The Rays failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity Tuesday night as they fell to the Yankees 5-0. Boston also lost their game against Baltimore which at least kept the Rays 2 games back.

Ivan Nova, who improved to 16-4, 12-0 over his last 15 starts, pitched 7 and 2/3 scoreless innings as the Yankees beat up on the Rays. It could have been much worse for the Rays as the Yankees were only 1 for 7 when they had bases loaded, which was a lot.

Wade Davis, now 10-10, looked pretty bad from the start, it seemed like he lacked command. The Rays did have their chances to score, but failed to capitalize every time, including bases loaded in the 7th with no outs.

The Yankees and Rays will play a double header on Wednesday.
