Silver Alert Launched in Pinellas
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008A new Silver alert for missing senior citizens has been launched in Pinellas county starting today.
The Silver alert is similar to the Amber alert and details regarding missing senior citizens will be displayed on various digital traffic signs across Pinellas county.
This day is bittersweet for Mary Lalluci because she lost her mom, Mary Zelter, 86, who disappeared after a trip to the store. Zelter had dementia and wound up driving her car into the water and drowned.
The Silver alert plan will possibly going nationwide soon, also.
“Congressman Gus Billirakis also took it to a national level where it got support from the House. It’s now waiting to be passed in the U.S. Senate. If the Silver Alert is passed by the U.S. Senate it will then be up to individual states whether to put it in place. Congressman C.W. Bill Young also helped sponsor it.”
